Job Description:

The purpose of this position is to lay out, fit, and fabricate metal components to assemble structural forms, such as machinery frames and heavy equipment components using knowledge of welding techniques, metallurgy, and engineering requirements.


* Weld steel components with welding equipment as directed by supervisor through specified layouts, engineering drawings, work orders and/or verbal instructions. Read, understand and follow job order specifications, engineering drawings and/or work orders.
* Set up, lay out work using jigs/fixtures or hand layouts to rebuild, fabricate and/or rework parts to a finished product. Inspect and correct welds as necessary and when directed to meet product specifications.
* Assist other in the fabrication and welding of multi-component parts.
* Operate forklifts, hoists, hand power tools, slings, grinders, cutting torch and other hand tools related to the jobs.
* Inspect equipment to maintain functionality and if any equipment needs repairs notify supervisor.
* Any and all duties as assigned

Minimum High School graduate or GED. College degree in mining, mechanical or electrical engineering preferred.

Knowledge of and minimum of three years of welding experience with underground coal mining equipment parts and service is required.

Extensive first-hand experience in underground coal mining maintenance a plus.

Strong problem solving skills, communication skills and customer service skills required.

Illinois experienced underground miner's certification and current MSHA underground training required. MSHA electrical certification is a plus.

Knowledge of longwall, room and pillar and support equipment is preferred.

Ability to work with minimal supervision, overtime, evenings, nights and weekends as well as on-call duties.

Special Physical Requirements:

In addition to being able to sit, stand, walk, read, talk, write and hear, to perform the essential functions of this job an individual must be able to do the following additional activities: occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds and operate in a very fast pace environment, must have hand-eye coordination and endurance and ability to communicate both verbally and in writing. Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions, both hot and cold weather temperatures. Climb in, on, and around large mining equipment as well as work in confined spaces. Travel requirements are < 25% with periodic work at Customers mining operations in both surface and underground environments.
